EVERYTHING AT THE RIGHT ANGLE
As a driver, you know the routine: get in, adjust your seat, adjust the mirrors, buckle up, and drive off. The right settings are crucial for safety and a comfortable driving experience. The steering wheel is at the center of the driver’s world. But what if it isn’t perfectly level?
To ensure everything is just right on the road later on, the steering wheel position is checked at the end of vehicle production. After all, it’s often the small details that make all the difference. With the Smart Ergo Level, Dürr has developed a mobile measuring device that records the angle and inclination of the steering wheel and assists workers in checking the settings.
Here’s how simple it works:
The worker removes the steering wheel balancer from the tray, places the support arms on the steering wheel spokes, and positions the device against the steering wheel rim. Using the activation button, the worker extends the support; the balancer presses against the spokes and automatically aligns itself with the steering wheel. The device turns on automatically when placed on the steering wheel. After the measurement, the operator releases the support, removes the balancer, and places it back in the tray for inductive battery charging. The home position monitoring system detects correct placement.
Immediate feedback
The device not only provides measurement values but also immediate guidance. The recorded data is continuously transmitted to the x-line software application. At the same time, technicians receive feedback on the results directly at the vehicle. Indicator lights, audible signals, and the integrated display make the current values visible at all times and support an efficient testing process. With the commercial vehicle version, the testing process can be controlled directly via buttons on the device.
Easy to use
However, good technology is not only evident in precise measurements but also in how easy it is to use. The Smart Ergo Level steering wheel leveler was developed precisely with this in mind. Its light weight, balanced weight distribution, and ergonomic design ensure comfortable handling. At the same time, adjustable arms allow for flexible adaptation to different steering wheel geometries and vehicle types. This enables the system to be used on both passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
Inductive charging
Designed for use in production, the Smart Ergo Level is built for endurance. Power is supplied by a lithium-ion battery. Thanks to inductive charging technology, the device can be easily charged without having to connect a cable. The design is complemented by a robust plastic housing developed specifically for industrial applications.

It helps workers reliably check the steering wheel position, provides clear feedback, and integrates seamlessly into the inspection process.
