Vehicle filling with DXQ software

Efficient management at Volkswagen

In automotive final assembly, fluid fill stations play a crucial role in ensuring components such as brakes, radiators, battery thermal management, and air conditioning systems are safely filled with precise amounts of fluid. Each vehicle model requires unique process recipes and parameters at the filling stations – for example, specific volumes or pressures for each type of fluid.

Previously, at Volkswagen’s Dresden plant, the manufacturing engineering team had to manually configure recipe parameters for every vehicle type at each filling station using an XML-based solution. This method was not only time-consuming and labor-intensive, but also susceptible to errors. Generating statistical reports for system monitoring and troubleshooting was also a tedious and complex task. Today, with the introduction of two advanced software solutions from Dürr, these challenges are history. The new cross-plant software, which utilizes a shared backend with Volkswagen’s Zwickau plant, enables seamless synchronization and sharing of production. This digital transformation has stream-lined operations, reduced manual workload, and improved data accuracy – empowering teams to focus on maximizing efficiency and driving innovation.

Dürr's solution with DXQ software

The Typedata Manager module, part of the DXQequipment.monitoring for filling software suite, empowers the manufacturing engineering team to view and adjust all recipe parameters for the six filling stations through a single, user-friendly interface. The software allows up to 20 parameter sets to be created and managed as standard, consolidating all relevant data within the system. As a result, planners can easily access, compare, and update parameters in one place, enhancing efficiency and flexibility.

The flexibility of the DXQ software makes it possible to make changes ad hoc. This function makes it easier to achieve the required parameters in the filling systems in particular. Compared to the previous system, we are talking about a time saving of around 90 %.

DXQprocess.analytics

All six filling systems at the plant are now integrated with the DXQprocess.analytics business intelligence tool for filling operations. This solution enables users to quickly and easily generate customized reports, offering a clear overview of the filling parameters for each system. The user-defined dashboard can be assembled via drag-and-drop, and monthly management reports can be created with just a few clicks. Regular reports only need to be set up once and are automatically updated each time they are accessed, thanks to relative time filter settings. By analyzing target versus actual values in the result data records, maintenance needs can be identified proactively. The display of specific error rates also allows for targeted troubleshooting

Through close collaboration between the Volkswagen and Dürr teams, the solution was further developed and improved during the course of the project. The software was customized to meet the needs of the VW plant and successfully implemented within the shared DXQ backend at the Volkswagen site in Zwickau.
